Jake Bender is a multi-talented man.

A retired Nashville homicide detective, a private investigator, owner of a 6-hole golf course, and a guitar playing singer-songwriter. When an older man in town confides his past to Jake “to clear his conscience,” Jake is quickly drawn into investigating two of the most famous murders in the history of the United States and must deal with a rogue element of the government that dates back to the end of World War II.

Have you ever thought that the Super Bowl might be fixed?

The FBI comes calling, asking for Jake Bender’s help on an investigation looking for a former high school teammate who has recently escaped from prison. It turns out that he is one of two former Tennessee Vol football players who are suspected of trying to fix the Super Bowl some twenty years before. The problem is, everyone who was involved is starting to turn up murdered.

Who killed Johnny Rose?

He was an over-the-hill Opry star with his best days behind him, or so it seems. Nashville Homicide Detective Jake Bender, who moonlights around town as a singer and songwriter, is assigned the case; nobody knows the country music scene like he does. As he looks into Rose’s past, several suspects quickly emerge.

Skip Bailey has just led the New York Yankees to the World Series Championship.

And has just been named the MVP. You would think things in his life could not be any better, but as he returns to his East Tennessee farm for the offseason, his carefully laid out plans for his life start to come apart. What follows is a trail of deceit, murders, offshore money laundering, and even his unwitting involvement in a major international incident. His life has surely come “unwound.”
